LITTLE SAPIENS

A fascinating journey to find out what it was like to be a kid in prehistoric times.

When it comes to the study of prehistory, there’s one ancient demographic that’s been completely overlooked. They are, well… KIDS! Children have been hard to “see” in archaeology.  But according to recent studies, kids made up 50% of prehistoric populations – that’s far from negligible!

Now, experts are having a closer look at what kids left behind… and finally piecing their story together. Hosted by Sarika Suzuki, combining recent findings and analysis with animation and observations of how kids live today, Little Sapiens is a fascinating journey of discovery of prehistoric children. First, we’ll FIND them. Experts have long believed that caves were only entered by prehistoric men. But new discoveries are revealing that the cave was actually a Little Sapiens family destination.

Experts are also analyzing ancient kids’ teeth to find out what they ate and finding out what they played with. Some evidence even shows they played at imitating adults. Imitation helped to learn vital skills like stone tool-making… but when would children have gained proficiency? To find out, Sarika and kids of varying ages try to learn the craft themselves!

Children may even have been drivers of human evolution – soaking up new information and skills, choosing what technologies they want to adopt, and carrying them onto the next generation… ensuring our very survival in the process. It turns out, learning about prehistoric kids is revealing so much more about us than we ever thought before. Sometimes the biggest discoveries… are the smallest ones.
